Kapila’s Advent: Brahmā’s Confirmation, the Marriage of the Nine Daughters, and Kardama’s Renunciation
स्वीयं वाक्यमृतं कर्तुमवतीर्णोऽसि मे गृहे । चिकीर्षुर्भगवान् ज्ञानं भक्तानां मानवर्धन: ॥ ३० ॥
svīyaṁ vākyam ṛtaṁ kartum avatīrṇo ’si me gṛhe cikīrṣur bhagavān jñānaṁ bhaktānāṁ māna-vardhanaḥ
Kardama Muni said: O Lord, You who ever increase the honor of Your devotees have descended into my home to fulfill Your word and to spread the path of true knowledge.
When the Lord appeared before Kardama Muni after his mature yoga practice, He promised that He would become Kardama’s son. He descended as the son of Kardama Muni in order to fulfill that promise. Another purpose of His appearance is cikīrṣur bhagavān jñānam, to distribute knowledge. Therefore He is called bhaktānāṁ māna-vardhanaḥ, “He who increases the honor of His devotees.” By distributing Sāṅkhya He would increase the honor of the devotees; therefore Sāṅkhya philosophy is not dry mental speculation. Sāṅkhya philosophy means devotional service. How could the honor of the devotees be increased unless Sāṅkhya were meant for devotional service? Devotees are not interested in speculative knowledge; therefore the Sāṅkhya enunciated by Kapila Muni is meant to establish one firmly in devotional service. Real knowledge and real liberation is to surrender unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead and engage in devotional service.
This verse states that the Lord descends to make His own word true, showing that His promises to devotees are unfailing and personally upheld by His appearance.
Kardama recognizes the Lord’s descent into his household as purposeful—both to keep a divine promise and to bestow spiritual knowledge that benefits devotees.
Value and support sincere practitioners—listen to spiritual instruction, serve without envy, and protect the dignity of devotional communities, reflecting the Lord’s own intent to increase devotees’ honor.
