The Yadu–Vṛṣṇi–Andhaka Genealogies and the Purpose of Kṛṣṇa’s Advent
विपृष्ठो धृतदेवायामेक आनकदुन्दुभे: । शान्तिदेवात्मजा राजन् प्रशमप्रसितादय: ॥ ५० ॥
vipṛṣṭho dhṛtadevāyām eka ānakadundubheḥ śāntidevātmajā rājan praśama-prasitādayaḥ
From the womb of Dhṛtadevā, one of Ānakadundubhi Vasudeva’s queens, a single son was born, named Vipṛṣṭha. From another wife, Śāntidevā, O king, were born sons such as Praśama, Prasita, and others.
Vipṛṣṭha is described here as a son of Ānakadundubhi (Vasudeva), born from his wife Dhṛtadevā.
In Canto 9 Śukadeva outlines royal and divine dynasties (vaṁśa) to show the historical and spiritual lineage culminating in Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s appearance in the Yadu line.
They remind a seeker that bhakti is received through lineage and remembrance—honoring devotees and sacred history strengthens faith, continuity, and commitment to dharma.
