Sudāmā Brāhmaṇa Receives Kṛṣṇa’s Mercy
The Gift of Flat Rice

Sudāmā was amazed to see his wife. Shining among maidservants wearing jeweled lockets, she appeared as radiant as a goddess in a celestial vimāna.
Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī explains that up to now the Supreme Lord had kept the brāhmaṇa in his wretched state so that his wife could recognize him.
It describes Sudāmā’s astonishment on seeing his wife suddenly radiant like a heavenly lady, surrounded by well-adorned maidservants—showing the visible transformation brought by Lord Kṛṣṇa’s grace.
Because Sudāmā had been extremely poor; after meeting Lord Kṛṣṇa, divine opulence manifested at his home, and his wife appeared splendidly adorned, which shocked him.
Sincere devotion and humility invite divine support; the verse encourages faith that spiritual sincerity can change one’s life, while reminding devotees not to lose simplicity even when prosperity comes.
