Kṛṣṇa Kills Dantavakra; Balarāma’s Pilgrimage and the Slaying of Romaharṣaṇa
एवं योगेश्वर: कृष्णो भगवान् जगदीश्वर: । ईयते पशुदृष्टीनां निर्जितो जयतीति स: ॥ १६ ॥
evaṁ yogeśvaraḥ kṛṣṇo bhagavān jagad-īśvaraḥ īyate paśu-dṛṣṭīnāṁ nirjito jayatīti saḥ
Thus Lord Kṛṣṇa—the Yogīśvara, Bhagavān, and Lord of the universe—is ever victorious; only those of beastly vision imagine that He is sometimes defeated.
Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī gives the following elaborate commentary on this section of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam:
This verse explains that to those with materialistic, animal-like vision, Krishna may seem conquered, but His apparent reversals are part of His divine play—He remains the supreme, ever-victorious Lord.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī speaks this verse while narrating Krishna’s pastimes to King Parīkṣit, clarifying how ordinary perception can misread the Lord’s actions.
Do not judge spiritual truth only by external outcomes; cultivate a devotional, faith-filled vision that sees God’s higher purpose even when events look like loss or defeat.
