Uddhava’s Counsel: The Jarāsandha Resolution and Kṛṣṇa’s Arrival at Indraprastha
ब्रह्मवेषधरो गत्वा तं भिक्षेत वृकोदर: । हनिष्यति न सन्देहो द्वैरथे तव सन्निधौ ॥ ७ ॥
brahma-veṣa-dharo gatvā taṁ bhikṣeta vṛkodaraḥ haniṣyati na sandeho dvai-rathe tava sannidhau
Let Bhīma go to him disguised as a brāhmaṇa and beg alms. In this way he will gain single combat with Jarāsandha, and in Your presence Bhīma will surely slay him.
The idea is that Bhīma should beg as charity a one-to-one fight with Jarāsandha.
This verse shows Kṛṣṇa advising a lawful, tactically sound approach: Bhīma, in brāhmaṇa disguise, requests what is due; upon refusal, the conflict proceeds to a formal duel where the aggressor is removed.
Approaching as a brāhmaṇa frames the request within accepted dharma—testing the opponent’s integrity and creating a just basis for the ensuing duel if the request is denied.
Act with principle first—seek a fair resolution through proper channels; if resistance persists, respond firmly but within ethical and lawful boundaries.
