The Killing of Cāṇūra, Muṣṭika, and Kaṁsa; Liberation and Restoration of Dharma in Mathurā
त्वया विरहिता पत्या पुरीयं पुरुषर्षभ । न शोभते वयमिव निवृत्तोत्सवमङ्गला ॥ ४६ ॥
tvayā virahitā patyā purīyaṁ puruṣarṣabha na śobhate vayam iva nivṛttotsava-maṅgalā
O great hero among men, bereft of you, its master, this city has lost its beauty, just as we have, and all festivity and good fortune within it have come to an end.
This verse shows that separation from the Lord removes joy and auspiciousness—true devotion experiences the world as incomplete without Kṛṣṇa’s presence.
Overwhelmed by love and gratitude after Kṛṣṇa’s heroic deeds, they express that Mathurā’s beauty and festivity depend on Him; without Him, everything feels empty.
When feeling spiritually “distant,” increase remembrance—hearing, chanting, and serving—so the sense of separation becomes motivation for deeper bhakti rather than despair.
