The Brāhmaṇas’ Wives Blessed (Brāhmaṇa-patnī-prasāda) — Ritualism Humbled by Bhakti
न प्रीतयेऽनुरागाय ह्यङ्गसङ्गो नृणामिह । तन्मनो मयि युञ्जाना अचिरान्मामवाप्स्यथ ॥ ३२ ॥
na prītaye ’nurāgāya hy aṅga-saṅgo nṛṇām iha tan mano mayi yuñjānā acirān mām avāpsyatha
To remain in My bodily company would not please the people of this world, nor is it the best way to deepen your love for Me. Fix your minds on Me, and very soon you will attain Me.
The Lord pointed out that people in general would not appreciate a loving affair between Lord Kṛṣṇa, who superficially was appearing as a cowherd boy, and the wives from the brāhmaṇa community. Also, the brāhmaṇa ladies’ own devotion and love would increase most efficiently in separation. In other words, it would be best all around if they continued to fix their minds on Lord Kṛṣṇa and thus went on with the process they had been practicing throughout their lives. The Lord and His bona fide representative, the spiritual master, expertly engage the Lord’s devotees in different types of service so that all of them can quickly return to His lotus feet.
This verse says physical or bodily association (aṅga-saṅga) does not produce lasting, genuine affection; true fulfillment comes from directing the mind to Kṛṣṇa.
In the context of the brahmana wives’ devotion, Kṛṣṇa teaches that spiritual connection through remembrance and devotion surpasses mere external or social association, and that absorption in Him brings swift perfection.
Regularly remember Kṛṣṇa through japa, hearing/reading Bhagavatam, kīrtana, and offering daily work to Him—training the mind to return to Him instead of seeking fulfillment only through temporary relationships.
