The Brāhmaṇas’ Wives Blessed (Brāhmaṇa-patnī-prasāda) — Ritualism Humbled by Bhakti
तदुपाकर्ण्य भगवान् प्रहस्य जगदीश्वर: । व्याजहार पुनर्गोपान् दर्शयन्लौकिकीं गतिम् ॥ १३ ॥
tad upākarṇya bhagavān prahasya jagad-īśvaraḥ vyājahāra punar gopān darśayan laukikīṁ gatim
Hearing this, Bhagavān, the Lord of the universe, simply laughed. Then He spoke again to the cowherd boys, showing them the worldly ways by which people commonly act.
By laughing, Lord Kṛṣṇa indicated to the cowherd boys that they need not be angry at the ritualistic brāhmaṇas but should understand that one who begs will often be refused.
It indicates that Kṛṣṇa, though the Supreme Lord, sometimes acts in ways that appear ordinary—teaching practical, socially recognizable behavior while guiding His devotees.
Kṛṣṇa smiled because He is fully aware of the deeper outcome of the situation and gently reassures the gopas, instructing them while keeping the mood of His humanlike pastimes.
Even with spiritual knowledge, one can act thoughtfully within social duties and circumstances—using everyday conduct as a vehicle for devotion and compassionate guidance.
