The Pracetās Meet Lord Viṣṇu—Benedictions, Pure Prayer, and the Birth of Dakṣa
yo jāyamānaḥ sarveṣāṁ tejas tejasvināṁ rucā svayopādatta dākṣyāc ca karmaṇāṁ dakṣam abruvan
Upon his birth, Dakṣa, by the surpassing radiance of his bodily luster, eclipsed the splendor of all who were brilliant. Because he was supremely skilled in the performance of karma, he was called “Dakṣa,” meaning “the very expert.”
Dakṣa became almost as powerful as Lord Brahmā. Consequently, Lord Brahmā engaged him in generating population. Dakṣa was very influential and opulent. In his own turn, Dakṣa engaged other Prajāpatis, headed by Marīci. In this way the population of the universe increased.
This verse describes a being who is recognized as qualified from birth—radiant, naturally competent, and fit to carry out prescribed duties—showing that true leadership is marked by evident capacity and dharmic responsibility.
The verse describes a figure identified with Prajāpati administration—connected with Dakṣa—whose brilliance and innate efficiency made him acknowledged as capable of executing duties.
It emphasizes cultivating competence (dākṣya), integrity in duty (karma), and using one’s abilities for protection and welfare of others rather than self-display.
