maitreya uvāca evaṁ sa bhagavān vainyaḥ khyāpito guṇa-karmabhiḥ chandayām āsa tān kāmaiḥ pratipūjyābhinandya ca
Maitreya said: Thus Bhagavān Vainya (Pṛthu) was acclaimed through the recitation of his virtues and heroic deeds. In the end, Mahārāja Pṛthu duly worshiped and honored those bards, welcomed them with appreciation, and satisfied them with various gifts.
This verse shows that a righteous leader becomes renowned by good qualities and actions, and he pleases others through respectful honor, kind reception, and appropriate fulfillment of legitimate needs.
He is called Vainya because he is the son (descendant) of King Vena; the epithet identifies his lineage while highlighting his later fame through virtue and deeds.
Practice leadership through character and service: respect people sincerely, acknowledge their contributions, and meet reasonable needs—especially while maintaining dharma.
