āyatiṁ niyatiṁ caiva sute merus tayor adāt tābhyāṁ tayor abhavatāṁ mṛkaṇḍaḥ prāṇa eva ca
The sage Meru had two daughters, Āyati and Niyati, whom he gave to Dhātā and Vidhātā. From them were born two sons, Mṛkaṇḍa and Prāṇa.
Mṛkaṇḍa is a great sage born in the lineage being described by Śukadeva Gosvāmī; he is renowned as the father of the celebrated sage Mārkaṇḍeya.
These genealogies connect kings and sages to the cosmic order of dharma and show how saintly lineages and Vedic culture are transmitted through generations.
They remind us that spiritual heritage is protected through responsible family life, honoring elders and teachers, and keeping devotion and dharma central across generations.
