Sukta 9
पिशङ्गे सूत्रे खृगलं तदा बध्नन्ति वेधसः । श्रवस्युं शुष्मं काबवं वध्रिं कृण्वन्तु बन्धुरः
piśáṅge sū́tre khṛ́galaṃ tádā badhnanti vedháḥ | śravasyúṃ śúṣmaṃ kābaváṃ vádhriṃ kṛṇvantu bandhúraḥ ||
With tawny cord, with halter-thong, even then the wise bind fast. Let the Bandhuras make Kābava—his fame-seeking pride, his vehement force—an impotent wretch.
Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (specific ṛṣi not stated in the excerpt)
Devata: Bandhura-s (personified agents/assistants of binding); the rite’s efficacy is also vested in the cord/strap as quasi-deities
Chandas: Anuṣṭubh (probable; standard for such Atharvanic verses)
