Mantra 1

तमिन्द्रं जोहवीमि मघवानमुग्रं सत्रा दधानमप्रतिष्कुतं शवांसि । मंहिष्ठो गीर्भिरा च यज्ञियो ववर्तद् राये नो विश्वा सुपथा कृणोतु वज्री

Him, Indra, I call again and yet again—the bounteous, the fierce—who ever bears resistless powers. Most liberal, with hymns he turns him hither, worthy of worship: for our wealth let the Thunderer make all ways good to go.

Mantra 2

या इन्द्र भुज आभरः स्वर्वां असुरेभ्यः । स्तोतारमिन्मघवन्नस्य वर्धय ये च त्वे वृक्तबर्हिषः

The aids, O Indra, which thou broughtest—heaven-bright good—from out the Asuras: the praiser—him, O bounteous—do thou increase, and those besides who, on thy side, have strewn the sacred grass.

Mantra 3

यमिन्द्र दधिषे त्वमश्वं गां भागमव्ययम्। यजमाने सुन्वति दक्षिणावति तस्मिन् तं धेहि मा पणौ

That share, O Indra, thou assignest—horse, cow, an undiminishing portion—unto the sacrificer, the Soma-presser rich in priestly gifts: in him set thou that; let it not be with the Paṇi.

Frequently Asked Questions

For prosperity with protection—asking Indra to remove obstacles, make undertakings go smoothly, and secure a stable share of wealth (cattle, horse, portion) for the patron.

They symbolize hostile or hoarding powers that block or divert wealth. The hymn asks Indra to retrieve ‘helps’ from such powers and to ensure the patron’s share is not placed with the Paṇi (the hoarder).

The language presumes a Soma-sacrificer, but it can be recited more generally as an Indra prosperity-and-obstacle-removal prayer, using simple ritual markers like clean grass (barhis) and a pledged gift (dakṣiṇā).
