Mantra 1
अभ्रातृव्यो अना त्वमनापिरिन्द्र जनुषा सनादसि । युधेदापित्वमिच्छसे
Rival-less, unattached—without close alliance—O Indra, by birth thou art so from of old; yet in battle, indeed, thou seekest comradeship.
Mantra 2
नकी रेवन्तं सख्याय विन्दसे पीयन्ति ते सुराश्वः । यदा कृणोषि नदनुं समूहस्यादित् पितेव हूयसे
No man at all wins thee, the wealthy one, for fellowship: thy good-steeded followers drink their draught. When thou makest the roaring onset, when thou musterest them together, then verily, like a father, thou art called upon.
To secure Indra’s willing fellowship—so he stands with the patron in conflict, brings victory and mustering power, and leaves rivals without support.
It stresses Indra’s independence (no one compels or equals him), while opening the possibility that he freely chooses alliance with the one who invokes him correctly—especially in battle.
Not in this sukta. Its force is primarily verbal and relational: praise that invites Indra’s sakhya/āpitva; offerings like ghee or a symbolic libation may be added if your ritual setting uses them.
