दत्तशुल्कं पञ्च तीर्थान्यश्रूयमाणम् दश श्रूयमाणम् ॥ कZ_०३.४.३४ ॥
dattaśulkaṃ pañca tīrthāny aśrūyamāṇam daśa śrūyamāṇam
When the śulka has been paid: if he is unheard of, she should wait five tīrthas; if he is being heard of, ten tīrthas.
They provide a predictable schedule for courts: the more complete the husband’s performance (payment), the longer the system protects the marital bond before allowing release.
