balīvardānāṃ nasyāśvabhadra-gati-vāhināṃ yavasasyārdhabhāras tṛṇasya dviguṇam, tulā ghāṇapiṇyākasya daśāḍhakaṃ, kaṇakuṇḍakasya pañcapalikaṃ, mukhalavanam; tailakuḍubo nasyaṃ, prasthaḥ pānaṃ, māṃsatulā, dadhnaś cāḍhakam; yavadroṇaṃ māṣāṇāṃ vā pulākaḥ; kṣīradroṇam ardha-āḍhakaṃ vā surāyāḥ; snehaprasthaḥ, kṣāradaśapalaṃ, śṛṅgiberapalaṃ ca pratipānam
For working bullocks and well-bred horses used for speed and transport, the ration/provisioning is as follows: half-bhāra of yava fodder and double that quantity of grass; one tulā of piṇyāka (oil-cake/pressed residue) with ten āḍhaka measures; five palika of kaṇa/kuṇḍaka with mouth-salt; a kuḍuba of oil as nasal medication; a prastha as drink; one tulā of meat and one āḍhaka of curd; one droṇa of barley—or alternatively a pulāka preparation of māṣa; one droṇa of milk, or half an āḍhaka of surā; one prastha of ghee/fat; and, as a post-drink remedial measure, ten pala of alkali and one pala of śṛṅgibera (dry ginger).
It creates enforceable standards, reduces corruption in provisioning, and links animal performance to accountable inputs.
Because animal health is treated as a state asset: preventive and remedial care is embedded into logistics rather than left to ad hoc decisions.
