FAQs

This verse imparts genealogical knowledge (vaṃśa-anukrama), listing lineage succession and the names of descendants for dynastic record-keeping in Purāṇic tradition.

By preserving historical-memory through lineage catalogues, it complements the Agni Purāṇa’s wide scope—alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and arts—serving as a reference index of Purāṇic dynasties and succession.

Recitation and preservation of vaṃśa lists is traditionally treated as smṛti-śuddhi (purification through sacred remembrance), sustaining dharma by honoring ancestors and maintaining continuity of righteous kingship narratives.
