FAQs

It teaches the pre-worship purification sequence: empower the pavitra with Hṛd/auxiliary mantras, perform self-aspersing (abhiṣeka/prokṣaṇa), consecrate the Viṣṇu-kumbha (ritual water-pot), and only then approach the deity.

Beyond mythology, the Agni Purāṇa preserves procedural liturgy—mantra-linked purification, consecration of ritual implements (kumbha), and temple/worship etiquette—showing its scope as a practical manual of Hindu ritual technology.

It frames worship as effective only after inner and outer śuddhi: the practitioner and the ritual vessels are purified and mantra-charged, reducing doṣa (ritual faults) and increasing the merit and efficacy of approaching the deity.
