Varaha Purana 154.16 — Adhyaya 154, Shloka 16

The Efficacy of Yamunā River Pilgrimage Sites

Merits of Mathurā-Region Tīrthas

FAQs

It preserves a layered cosmology of destinations (Sūryaloka, 'my world') tied to ritual action at a site, reflecting Purāṇic geotheology.

The verse refers to an implied tīrtha (“in which”), likely continuing a previously named site in the surrounding text.

The instruction is framed as ritual purification and disciplined end-of-life orientation, rather than coercive doctrine.
