brāhmaṇā ūcuḥ pūrvāparavirodhe navākyametanmahāmate | kathamasti kathaṃ nāsti tasmāttvaṃ vaktumarhasi | vismayo'yaṃ mahāñjātaḥ sarveṣāṃ ca dvijanmanām
Die Brāhmaṇas sprachen: „O Großgesinnter, diese Aussage ist neu und scheint dem Vorhergehenden und Nachfolgenden zu widersprechen. Wie kann es sein, und wie kann es nicht sein? Darum sollst du es erklären. Großes Erstaunen ist bei allen Zweimalgeborenen entstanden.“
