ahaṃ tapaścariṣyāmi putrārthaṃ dvijasattama | anujñāṃ dehi me yena toṣayāmi maheśvaram | putro yena bhavenmahyaṃ vaṃśavṛddhikaraḥ paraḥ
Piṅgalā (implied by context)
Type: kshetra
Scene: A devoted woman addresses a venerable sage (dvijasattama), hands folded, declaring her intent to perform austerities for a son and requesting permission to worship Mahādeva.
Sincere tapas directed to Śiva, undertaken with permission and humility, is presented as a dharmic means to fulfill righteous desires.
No site-name appears in this verse; the larger Tīrthamāhātmya context implies a sacred field (kṣetra) where Śiva is pleased.
Tapas (austerity) to please Maheśvara is stated; details of the practice are given in subsequent verses.
