Type: kshetra

Listener: Dvija/Muni

Scene: The dying maiden fixes the brahmin-wretch with a steady gaze, demanding he proclaim the true principle; a visual motif of karmic return—like a dark shadow curling back toward him—suggests the sin returning to its source.

FAQs

Even when speaking “truth” is urged, Dharma warns that grave sins—especially strī-vadha—carry repercussions; ethical accountability cannot be bypassed by mere speech.

The verse occurs in the Nāgarakhaṇḍa’s Tīrthamāhātmya, but this single line does not name the specific tīrtha; the surrounding verses of Adhyāya 144 are needed to identify the exact site.

No direct ritual (snāna, dāna, japa, vrata) is stated in this verse; it focuses on moral consequence (pāpa-phala) and the act of proclaiming tattva.
