योषित्सुवध्योऽसि रणं विभुंच शुंभाऽशुभ स्वल्पतरैरहोभिः । मत्तोर्हसि त्वं न वृथैव मूढ ततोऽपयातः स च शंभदानवः
yoṣitsuvadhyo'si raṇaṃ vibhuṃca śuṃbhā'śubha svalpatarairahobhiḥ | mattorhasi tvaṃ na vṛthaiva mūḍha tato'payātaḥ sa ca śaṃbhadānavaḥ
„O unheilvoller Shumbha, du bist dazu bestimmt, von einer Frau getötet zu werden; und deine Tapferkeit im Kampf wird in wenigen Tagen enden. Du bist mir nicht gewachsen – bemühe dich nicht vergeblich, o Narr.“ Als er dies sagte, zog sich jener Danava Shumbha zurück.
