The sages (munis)
Tirtha: Setukṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Pāṇḍya king
Scene: Sages recoil and command the king to depart, declaring that even speaking with him multiplies brahmahatyā; the king appears as a ‘stain’ on lineage, isolated at the edge of the assembly.
Purāṇic ethics warns that grievous sin can ‘contaminate’ social-religious space; one must seek purification before sacred association.
Setu, the pilgrimage setting where standards of purity and expiation are articulated.
No direct rite here; it intensifies the need for expiation by stressing the severity of impurity.
