Transliteration

śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca | ādau kṛtayuge tāta devadevo maheśvaraḥ | tapaścacāra vipulaṃ gaṅgāsāgarasaṃsthitaḥ

Translation

Śrī Mārkaṇḍeya sprach: Zu Beginn, im Kṛta-Yuga, mein Sohn, vollzog Maheśvara, der Gott der Götter, gewaltige Askesen, während er am Gaṅgā-sāgara verweilte.
