शिवो महेश्वरश्चेति नात्यंतमिह भिद्यते । यथा तथा न भिद्यंते शैवा माहेश्वरा अपि
śivo maheśvaraśceti nātyaṃtamiha bhidyate | yathā tathā na bhidyaṃte śaivā māheśvarā api

Whether one worships the Lord as Śiva or Maheśvara—especially through the Śiva-liṅga as the accessible Saguna focus—the object of worship remains the same Supreme Reality; differences are chiefly of designation and tradition, not of the Lord’s essence.
A practical takeaway is single-pointed japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a non-sectarian understanding that all authentic names and forms of Śiva invoke the same Lord, supporting steadiness in bhakti and meditation.
