It frames initiation as a Śiva-sanctioned purification: receiving what is ‘from Śiva’, investing the disciple with the upavīta, and sealing the act through fire-offerings—symbolizing removal of pāśa (bondage) and readiness for disciplined Śaiva sādhanā under Pati (Śiva).
The rite is a preparatory saṃskāra that authorizes and stabilizes Saguna-Śiva worship—especially mantra, homa, and regulated pūjā—through which the devotee approaches Śiva’s grace and ultimately realizes the higher truth beyond form.
A formal upavīta-dāna followed by homa: three āhutis and then a pūrṇāhuti, typically accompanied by Śiva-mantra japa (such as the Pañcākṣarī, ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’) as the inner meditation while offering into Agni.
