Inquiry into Paśu, Pāśa, and Pati

Role: teaching
It teaches that duḥkha ends not merely by intellectual understanding, but by Śiva’s anugraha (grace), which is drawn forth through tapas; in Shaiva Siddhanta, liberation is ultimately perfected by the Lord’s gracious bestowal.
It points to approaching Śiva as the gracious Lord (Saguna for worship), where disciplined practice and devotion culminate in prasāda; Linga-worship is a primary means to seek that grace even when one has not yet realized Śiva’s highest nature.
Undertake tapas such as steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), simple vrata on Mahāśivarātri, and daily Śiva-pūjā (including bhasma/Tripuṇḍra where appropriate) with the intent of receiving Śiva’s prasāda.
