Tripura Dīkṣā: Prescriptive Procedure
Chapter on the Ordinance of Initiation
Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Role: liberating
It teaches that Shiva’s dīkṣā (transformative initiation) is not a mere favor but a grace given when the seeker aligns with Shiva’s ājñā (divine discipline). Eligibility and obedience to dharma become the doorway to anugraha (liberating grace).
In Saguna Shiva worship—especially Linga-upāsanā—outer rites are meant to express inner surrender. This verse emphasizes that initiation and deeper access to Shiva’s worship are grounded in following Shiva’s injunctions, not in effort alone.
The takeaway is disciplined observance of Shiva’s commands: keep vows (vrata), practice japa with the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and maintain purity of conduct—making oneself fit for dīkṣā and sustained sādhanā.
