Wer einem anderen schaden will, auf den fällt dieser Schaden gewiss zurück. Dies erkennend, soll der Mensch niemandem Unheil zufügen.
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva Purana teachings to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
It teaches a karma-based ethic aligned with Shaiva dharma: intent to harm becomes a binding force (pāśa) that returns to the doer, while restraint and non-injury purify the mind for Shiva-bhakti and liberation.
Linga worship emphasizes inner purity and self-restraint; approaching Saguna Shiva with malice contradicts devotion. Practicing non-harm supports śuddhi (purity) and steadiness needed for sincere pūjā, japa, and surrender to Shiva.
A practical takeaway is to pair daily japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a vow of ahimsa and mindful speech; if one wears Rudraksha or applies Bhasma, let it be accompanied by conduct that avoids harming others.
