Pārvatī’s Vow of Truth and the Dialogue on Her Tapas
Sūta Gosvāmin (continuing the Purāṇic narration to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya; this is a colophon-style closure line)
Sthala Purana: Colophon line (iti… adhyāyaḥ) marking the closure of the chapter; not a sthala-purāṇa passage.
This is a concluding colophon that seals the chapter’s teaching: devotion (bhakti) and discernment are tested, and the devotee’s steadfastness toward Śiva as Pati (the Lord) is affirmed as spiritually transformative.
Though not a ritual injunction itself, it frames a key Saguna context: Śiva’s approachable, personal form engages in divine testing (līlā) to refine the devotee’s intent—an attitude foundational to heartfelt worship of Śiva, including Liṅga-upāsanā.
The takeaway is to cultivate steadiness in Śiva-bhakti—supportable through daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and mindful self-examination when doubts or “testing words” arise.
