Sarga 95: Lamentation in Laṅkā and the Causal Chain of Enmity
हतप्रवीरारामेणनिराशाजीवितेवयम् ।।।।अपश्य्नत्योभयस्यान्तमनाथाविलपामहे ।
hata-pravīrā rāmeṇa nirāśā jīvite vayam |
apaśyantyo bhayasyāntam anāthā vilapāmahe ||6.95.25||
Da Rāma unsere vorzüglichsten Helden erschlagen hat, ist uns die Hoffnung auf Leben entschwunden; da wir kein Ende dieser Furcht erblicken, klagen wir wie Schutzlose.
"Eminent heroes killed by Rama, hopes of life lost, not able to see the end of fear, we are like orphans weeping."
The verse highlights the human fallout of unrighteous conflict: when leaders choose adharma, the vulnerable become “anātha”—left without protection and stability.
Inside Lanka, the women lament after the death of their champions, expressing despair and unending fear as the war closes in.
Implicitly, the need for protective, responsible rulership (rāja-dharma); its absence produces anāthatva (helplessness) among dependents.
