Als ich einst Vedavatī schändete, wurde ich von ihr verflucht; und nun ist eben sie als die glückselige Sītā geboren, Janakas geliebte Tochter.
"In the past, I violated Vedavathi and got cursed by her. The same Woman born as Sita, the daughter of Janaka, is a highly blessed one."
Violation of dharma—especially violence against a woman—returns as inevitable consequence; satya manifests through the fruition of a curse and moral causality.
Rāvaṇa, shaken, acknowledges an earlier wrongdoing against Vedavatī and recognizes Sītā as the destined outcome tied to that curse.
Negative exemplum: the verse underscores the necessity of restraint and respect (dama, maryādā) by showing the ruin that follows their absence.
