Rāvaṇa’s Assault on Nīla and Lakṣmaṇa; Hanumān Bears Rāma
तंविह्वलन्तंप्रसमीक्ष्यरामस्समाददेदीप्तमथार्थचन्द्रम् ।तेनार्कवर्णंसहसाकिरीटंचिच्छेदरक्षोधिपतेर्महात्मा ।।6.59.140।।
taṁ vihvalantaṁ prasamīkṣya rāmaḥ samādade dīptam athārthacandram |
tenārkavarṇaṁ sahasā kirīṭaṁ ciccheda rakṣodhipater mahātmā ||6.59.140||
Als Rāma den Herrn der Rākṣasas taumeln sah, ergriff der Großgesinnte einen lodernden, sichelförmigen Pfeil; und damit schlug er ihm im Nu die Krone ab, sonnenrot an Glanz.
Seeing Ravana swooning, great soul Rama took up a crescent shaped arrow and hastily broke his crown into pieces which were shining bright red like the Sun.
It highlights restraint and righteous conduct in battle: even while fulfilling kṣātra-dharma (warrior duty), Rāma demonstrates controlled force—subduing and signaling dominance without needless excess in that moment.
Rāma’s action serves his truthful vow to restore order and uphold righteousness; Satya here is not merely speech but steadfast fidelity to a just purpose, expressed through disciplined, proportionate action in war.
