Hanuman’s Post-Conflagration Self-Examination and Assurance of Sita’s Safety
तपसा सत्यवाक्येन अनन्यत्वाच्च भर्तरि।अपि सा निर्दहेदग्निं न तामग्निः प्रधक्ष्यति।।।।
tapasā satyavākyena ananyatvāc ca bhartari | api sā nirdahen agniṃ na tām agniḥ pradhakṣyati ||
Durch die Kraft ihrer Askese, durch die Unerschütterlichkeit ihrer Wahrhaftigkeit und durch ihre ausschließliche Hingabe an ihren Gemahl könnte sie sogar das Feuer selbst verbrennen; doch das Feuer vermöchte sie nicht zu verzehren.
'By virtue of her power of asceticism, power of truthfulness and exclusive devotion towards her husband, she may consume the fire. Fire will not burn her'.
Truth (satya), austerity (tapas), and unwavering marital fidelity (pativrata-dharma) are presented as spiritual forces that protect the righteous from harm.
Hanuman reassures himself that Sita’s inner power—rooted in dharma—makes it impossible for the fire in Lanka to destroy her.
