Sita’s Recognition and Reassurance by the Envoy
मलयेन च विन्ध्येन मेरुणा मन्दरेण च।दर्दुरेण च ते देवि शपे मूलफलेन च।।।।यथा सुनयनं वल्गु बिम्बोष्ठं चारु कुण्डलम् ।मुखं द्रक्ष्यसि रामस्य पूर्णचन्द्रमिवोदितम्।।।।
malayena ca vindhyena meruṇā mandareṇa ca | dardureṇa ca te devi śape mūlaphalena ca ||
yathā sunayanaṃ valgu bimboṣṭhaṃ cāru kuṇḍalam |
mukhaṃ drakṣyasi rāmasya pūrṇacandram ivoditam ||
O göttlich anmutende Sītā, ich schwöre dir bei Malaya, Vindhya, Meru, Mandara und Dardura und bei den Wurzeln und Früchten, die uns nähren: Du wirst Rāmas Antlitz schauen—mit schönen Augen, Lippen rot wie die Bimba-Frucht und lieblichen Ohrringen—strahlend wie der aufgehende Vollmond.
"O Sita! I swear in the name of mountains like Malaya, Vindhya, Meru, and Dardura (the abodes of monkeys and bears) and by the roots and fruits as well (which are the food of vanaras). you will soon behold Rama with beautiful eyes, red lips like bimba fruit, lovely ear-rings and a countenance resembling the full moon.
Satya (truthfulness) expressed through a solemn oath: Hanumān binds his promise to sacred geography and ascetic sustenance, modeling integrity and responsible speech meant to relieve suffering.
Hanumān offers Sītā a vow of certainty that she will soon see Rāma again, describing Rāma’s auspicious appearance to strengthen her hope.
