The Severing of Kabandha’s Arms and the Opening of Dialogue
भीषणोऽयं महाकायो राक्षसो भुजविक्रमः।लोकं ह्यतिजितं कृत्वा ह्यावां हन्तुमिहेच्छति।।।।
bhīṣaṇo 'yaṃ mahākāyo rākṣaso bhujavikramaḥ | lokaṃ hy atijitaṃ kṛtvā hy āvāṃ hantum ihecchati ||
Dieser Rākṣasa ist furchterregend und von riesigem Leib, mächtig durch die Kraft seiner Arme. Nachdem er die Welt bezwungen hat, will er uns nun hier töten.
Having heard this, Lakshmana, who was greatly suffering gathered courage at appropriate time and said these salutary words:
Dharma requires clear-eyed recognition of adharma: naming a threat truthfully is part of responsible action and protection.
Lakshmana characterizes Kabandha’s power and intent, strengthening the case for immediate defense.
Practical wisdom—accurate appraisal of danger before acting.
