Hymn of Victory: Varāha, the Slaying of Hiraṇyākṣa, and the Praise of Viṣṇu

Concept: Cosmic time dwarfs human urgency; apparent dominance can swell over long durations, yet remains within the Lord’s governance.

Application: Do not mistake prolonged struggle for final defeat; patience and steadiness are required when outcomes mature over time.

FAQs

It signals a cosmic scale of time, showing that the conflict and its consequences unfold over immense, non-human durations typical of Purāṇic narrative.

Vāmana is famed for expanding into the vast Trivikrama form; the verse uses that well-known image to convey dramatic increase—here, the Daitya’s growth in strength or stature.

Power can intensify over time through sustained struggle; the verse also hints that growth (vṛddhi) can be sudden and extraordinary, like mythic transformations in avatāra narratives.
