Adhyaya 8 — Harishchandra’s Trial: Truth, the Sale of Family, and Bondage to a Chandala

punaś ca bhakṣitaḥ so 'pi bhāryāṃ śocitum udyataḥ / hā śaivye! kva gatāsy adya mām ihāpāsya duḥkhitam
Und wiederum wurde auch er verschlungen; doch begann er um seine Gattin zu klagen: „Weh, Śaivyā! Wohin bist du heute gegangen und hast mich hier im Kummer zurückgelassen?“

Even in extremity (being devoured), attachment persists; the text critiques moha—grief that clings to relations as if they were permanent—urging steadiness and dharmic clarity.
Narrative instruction (ākhyāna) illustrating human bondage (bandha) through emotion and attachment; not one of the five formal lakṣaṇas as a standalone category.
‘Devoured again’ indicates cyclic dissolution of identities; the repeated call to Śaivyā shows the mind’s tendency to recreate the same sorrow-pattern even after ‘death’ (a reset).
