Adhyaya 34Madālāsā’s Instruction on Sadācāra (Householder Conduct, Purity, and Daily Rites)

धर्मो धर्मानुबन्धार्थो धर्मो नात्मार्थबाधकः ।

उभाभ्यां च द्विधा कामस्तेन तौ च द्विधा पुनः ॥

dharmo dharmānubandhārtho dharmo nātmārthabādhakaḥ | ubhābhyāṃ ca dvidhā kāmas tena tau ca dvidhā punaḥ ||

Dharma ist das, was weiteren Dharma nach sich zieht; Dharma behindert nicht das wahre Eigeninteresse. Und in Bezug auf beide (Dharma und artha) wird kāma zweifach; daher sind jene beiden (Dharma und artha) wiederum zweifach in ihrer Beziehung zu kāma.
