Ballava (Bhīma) Seeks Employment as Royal Cook in Virāṭa’s Court
मन्त्रिद्विजान् सूतमुखान् विशस्तथा ये चापि केचित् परित: समासते । पप्रच्छ को<यं प्रथमं समेयिवान् नृपोपमो<यं समवेक्षते सभाम्,मन्त्री, ब्राह्मण, सूत-मागध आदि, वैश्यगण तथा अन्य जो कोई भी सभासद् उनके दायें-बायें सब ओर बैठे थे, उन सबसे राजाने पूछा--“ये कौन हैं? जो पहले-पहल यहाँ पधारे हैं? ये तो किसी राजाकी भाँति मेरी सभाको निहार रहे हैं!
mantridvijān sūtamukhān viśas tathā ye cāpi kecit paritaḥ samāsate | papraccha ko 'yaṃ prathamaṃ sameyivān nṛpopamo 'yaṃ samavekṣate sabhām ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Der König fragte alle, die rings um ihn saßen—seine Minister, die Brahmanen, die Barden und Herolde (sūtas und dergleichen), die Vaiśyas und alle übrigen Anwesenden: „Wer ist dieser Mann, der als Erster hier eingetroffen ist? Er wirkt wie ein König und mustert meine Versammlung, als wäre sie die seine.“
