Bhīṣma–Arjuna Strategic Engagement at Virāṭa’s Frontier (भीष्मार्जुनयुद्धम्)

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the epic ideal of kṣatriya-dharma: when conflict becomes unavoidable, warriors meet face-to-face with courage and steadfastness. It frames battle not as chaos alone, but as a grave arena where valor, discipline, and resolve are tested.

Vaiśampāyana narrates that a fierce duel has begun between two outstanding warriors. Their fight, occurring in the thick of the battlefield, becomes extraordinarily intense and awe-inspiring—described as loma-harṣaṇa, ‘making the hair stand on end.’
