Virāṭa Rescued from Suśarmā; Night Battle and Royal Gratitude (विराटमोक्षणं सुशर्मवधाभिमुखं च)
न शेकुरभिसंरब्धा: शूरान् कर्तु पराड्मुखान् । घुड़सवार घुड़सवारोंसे और गजारोही गजारोहियोंसे लड़ रहे थे। राजन! वे सब क्रोधमें भरकर उस युद्धमें एक-दूसरेपर तलवार, पट्टिश, प्रास, शक्ति और तोमर आदि अस्त्र- शस्त्रोंसे प्रहार कर रहे थे; किंतु परिघके समान प्रचण्ड भुजदण्डवाले वे शूरवीर परस्पर क्रोधपूर्वक प्रहार करनेपर भी सामना करनेवाले वीरोंको पीछे नहीं हटा पाते थे ।। १०-११ *॥ कृत्तोत्तरोष्ठं सुनसं कृत्तकेशमलंकृतम्
vaiśampāyana uvāca | na śekur abhisaṃrabdhāḥ śūrān kartuṃ parāṅmukhān |
Vaiśampāyana sprach: So sehr sie auch vor Zorn entbrannten, vermochten sie die tapferen Krieger nicht dazu zu bringen, den Rücken zu kehren. Im Gedränge der Schlacht konnten selbst wiederholte, wütende Angriffe den Entschluss der Standhaften nicht brechen; Mut traf auf Mut, und keine Seite wich.
