संरब्धं रक्तनेपथ्यं गोपालानां पुरोगमम् । विराटमभिनन्दन्तमथ मे भवति ज्वर:,गेरू आदिसे लाल रंगका शुंगार धारण किये ग्वालोंके अगुआ बने हुए सहदेवको उद्विग्न होनेपर भी जब मैं राजा विराटका अभिनन्दन करते देखती हूँ, तब मुझे बुखार चढ़ आता है

Vaiśampāyana sprach: „Wenn ich Sahadeva sehe—in roter Kleidung und roter Schminke, mit grimmiger Miene, an der Spitze der Kuhhirten—wie er, innerlich aufgewühlt, dennoch Virāṭa begrüßt und ehrt, dann scheint mich ein Fieber zu packen. Der Anblick erfüllt mich mit banger Ahnung: Verkleidung und erzwungene Huldigung verbergen unter äußerer Höflichkeit eine gefährliche Spannung.“
