Damayantī’s Distress, Proclamation of the Svayaṃvara, and the Gods’ Request
amitrān me mahābāho sānubandhān haniṣyasi | varṣāt trayodaśād ūrdhva satyaṁ māṁ kuru keśava ||
The verse foregrounds satya (truth/keeping one’s word) as an ethical anchor: Yudhiṣṭhira seeks assurance that justice will be enacted at the proper time, and that a pledged outcome—defeating wrongdoing and its supporting network—will be fulfilled without violating the discipline of the thirteen-year term.
In the context of the Pandavas’ exile, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Kṛṣṇa as a trusted ally and moral force, asking him to confirm that after the completion of thirteen years, their enemies—together with their allies—will be overcome, and that this expectation will be made true.
