Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical complexity of concealed truth: a mother knows her child’s identity yet keeps it hidden, suggesting how personal duty, social stability, and future outcomes can conflict. It also points to the tension between birth and upbringing—how identity in the epic is shaped by both origin and the household that nurtures one.

The narrator states that the heroic child, raised as the son of the charioteer Adhiratha, grows up in Aṅga. Kuntī (Pṛthā) secretly confirms through spies that her divine-armored son is alive and being brought up there.
