Mudgalasya Svarga-nirvedaḥ

Mudgala’s Disenchantment with Heaven

गच्छ दुर्योधनं बद्ध्वा सहामात्यमिहानय । धनंजयश्न ते रक्ष्य: सह भ्रातृभिराहवे

gaccha duryodhanaṃ baddhvā sahāmātyam ihānaya | dhanaṃjayaś ca te rakṣyaḥ saha bhrātṛbhir āhave ||

Chitrasena sprach: „Geh: ergreife Duryodhana, binde ihn und bringe ihn hierher, zusammen mit seinen Ministern. Doch in der Schlacht musst du Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) schützen, mitsamt seinen Brüdern.“

Even when punishing wrongdoing, one should uphold restraint and discernment: the aggressor (Duryodhana) may be lawfully subdued, but the virtuous (Arjuna and his brothers) are to be protected. Power is to be exercised with ethical discrimination, not indiscriminate violence.
