The Birth and Career Account of Māndhātṛ

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical ideal that true power (tapas and tejas) must be governed by self-control. Austerity can protect and sustain the world, but unchecked intensity can also harm it; hence mastery of mind is central to dharma.

Lomaśa is guiding Yudhiṣṭhira through a sacred landscape and points out a holy worship-site in Kurukṣetra, associated with a Sun-like radiant figure. He describes the extraordinary ascetic power of such beings—capable of both safeguarding creation and scorching the worlds.
