Educational Q&A

A ruler’s legitimacy and effectiveness rest on self-mastery (kṛtātmatā) and disciplined austerity (tapas): inner restraint generates moral power (tejas) that enables the protection and ordering of society.

Lomaśa, addressing the king, praises a powerful figure’s righteous governance: he protected the people (described as fourfold) and, through intense inner austerity and brilliance, exerted a formidable influence felt across the worlds.
