मधुरानूषरे देशो शुचौ पुण्ये महामति: । निवेशं कारयामास कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिर:

vaiśampāyana uvāca |

madhurānūṣare deśe śucau puṇye mahāmatiḥ |

niveśaṃ kārayāmāsa kuntīputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ ||

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Yudhiṣṭhira, der hochgesinnte Sohn der Kuntī, ließ das Heerlager in einer angenehmen Gegend errichten, frei von unfruchtbarer Salzkruste, sauber und glückverheißend, nachdem er sich weit von Orten wie Verbrennungsstätten, Tempeln der Götter, Einsiedeleien der Weisen, heiligen Furten (tīrtha) und berühmten Heilbezirken ferngehalten hatte. Diese Wahl bezeugt eine bewusste Ethik der Zurückhaltung: selbst in der Kriegsvorbereitung stört er die geweihten Räume nicht und wahrt rituelle wie moralische Angemessenheit.
